Scout earned his name after he helped us find a survey monument that we were trying to locate on the homestead. We were crawling on our hands and knees, searching for the monument when we heard Scout, a young pup at the time, let out a yelp. Bouncing over the tussocks, he had stepped on a stake marking the monument. When we found Scout, he was happily bouncing around again like puppies do and there was our survey monument! Scout, a large husky male, has a somewhat unusual disposition for a husky---he loves to lounge in the house and go everywhere with my husband, Al. In fact, they are best buddies. Scout can run any position in the team from wheel dog to single lead dog but when he is excited, he is a handful and has been known to take a turn or two off the trail that I was not planning on. |
