Oogruk means big spotted seal in the Eskimo language, Inupiat. Oogruk lives up to his name. An Alaska Husky male, he weighs 85 lbs. and has the build of a freight sled dog. While Oogruk is not built for speed, he is very strong and his heart is totally into running with the team. Last spring, our dog team visited a nearby school during Iditarod so the children could learn about sled dogs and mushing. Many of the children wrote notes to us about how much they liked the big dog that kept yelping to hit the trails again-that's our Oogruk!
